British Parliamentary Under Secretary visits Vietnam

British Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for International Development Shahid Malik will visit Hanoi from August 28-30. This is his first visit to an Asian country.

During the visit, Mr Malik is scheduled to meet deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem, Minister of Planning and Investment Vu Hong Phuc, Government officials, donors and representatives from non-government organisations in Hanoi.

On the occasion, Mr Malik will announce a financial support package for “One United Nations” initiative in Vietnam.

Mr Malik will visit northern Hoa Binh province to check its poverty reduction programme and HIV/AIDS prevention projects funded by the Department for International Development (DFID). He expects to meet with drug addicts, prostitutes and educators to learn about HIV/AIDS prevention methods in Vietnam.(VOV)
