RoK naval fleet to anchor in Viet Nam
Ha Noi (VNA) – A naval fleet from the Republic of Korea, which includes the preeminent destroyer Chongmugong Yi Sunshin DDH, will dock at Viet Nam’s Sai Gon port on September 9 for a three-day stay in Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the RoK Embassy, HCM City will be the second leg of the fleet’s tour of nine countries in Asia, Europe and America with the fleet setting sail from the city to India on August 11.
The fleet’s crew will pay courtesy visits to the city’s authorities and military commanders, and join in cultural and sports exchange programmes during their stay in HCM City.
The 4,500 tonne-capacity Chongmugong Yi Sunshin destroyer, one of the most modern ships in the RoK naval battalion, was built by the Daewoo shipbuilding company in 1999 and launched in 2003.
Setting off from the Chinhae port on August 29, 2006, the RoK fleet has so far clocked up 49,000 km criss-crossing the globe.
