RoK to issue new policies to support Vietnamese brides
Ha Noi (VNA) - Kim Eui-ki, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea (RoK) on Aug. 28 sat down with Ha Thi Khiet, President of the Viet Nam Women's Association to discuss an alarming number of cases of physical abuse by RoK men married to Vietnamese women.
The RoK ambassador, who paid a visit to President Khiet at the end of his term of office in Viet Nam , expressed his regret over the deaths of two Vietnamese women, who were married and lived with Korean men, in the RoK.
The RoK diplomat said that the RoK Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City and the Association of RoK people in Viet Nam held a ceremony to pray for the two women and raised more than 5,000 USD for the victims' parents.
According to Ambassador Kim-Eui-ki, the RoK government has implemented a number of policies to help Vietnamese brides and enable them to lead fruitful lives in the Korean peninsula.
The ambassador said that the two cases were occurances in the country and the RoK government will issue policies to aid Vietnamese brides and enable them to lead happy lives in the RoK.
Khiet appreciated the new RoK policy for rollout , but was concerned that between 30-40 percent of women still suffer from emotional abuse.
Viet Nam and the RoK should work together to find solutions for the problem; and strictly punish all cases that centre on violence against women, Khiet said.
She requested Ambassador Kim-Eui-ki to work for the signing of a judicial aid agreement between the RoK and Viet Nam concerning the matter of Vietnamese women who are wives of RoK men.
