Vietnamese, Polish Prime Ministers look to bolster ties

Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dzung and his Polish counterpart, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, have agreed to expand cooperation in the areas of shipbuilding, energy, food processing, education and training.

The two Prime Ministers reached the consensus during their talks, following an official welcome for the Vietnamese Government leader in Warsaw on September 14.

PM Kaczynski saluted PM Dzung’s visit to Poland, describing it as evidence of the traditional friendship that both Poland and Viet Nam share.

The Polish Government leader spoke highly of Viet Nam’s achievements in its national renewal process and implementing its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralization.

Poland considers Viet Nam an important partner that plays an increasing role in Southeast Asia and has recorded rapid economic growth, he said.

PM Kaczynski praised the contributions of the Vietnamese community in Poland to the development of the European country as well as the bilateral relations.

For his part, PM Dzung said he was pleased to visit Poland and witness the great achievements that the Polish people have obtained in national construction and development, and integration into Europe and the international arena.

The two government leaders discussed ways to boost multifaceted cooperation and speed up the implementation of already signed agreements in culture, science, technology, justice, investment and taxation.

PM Dzung and PM Kaczynski agreed to raise two-way trade to 500 million USD over the next two years from the 330 million USD it stood at in 2006.

Host and guest exchanged views on international and regional issues of mutual concern, including human rights-related matters. They also affirmed mutual support for each other’s bids for non-permanent seats in the United Nations Security Council, Viet Nam in the 2008-2009 and Poland in the 2010-2011 terms.

PM Dzung took this occasion to invite PM Kaczynski to visit Viet Nam. The Polish PM accepted the invitation with pleasure.

After their talks, the two government leaders witnessed the signing of a document on several contents relating to an agreement on Poland’s provision of a soft loan of 16.47 million euros for Viet Nam’s shipbuilding industry.-(VNA)
