Vietnamese PM to attend 62nd UN General Assembly, visit France
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dzung will attend the 62nd session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York where Viet Nam's bid for a UN Security Council non-permanent seat for the 2008-09 term will be decided.
The PM will look to shore up support on the vote as he reiterates that Viet Nam is an active, constructive, cooperative and responsible member of the international community. The session will run from September 25-28th.
He is expected to join 115 other leaders of UN member countries in the debates that will centre on global crisis and conflicts, the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, the fight against terror, environmental pollution, and climate change.
Stable growth rates of the world economy, poverty reduction, virulent diseases, millennium development goals and the United Nations reforms are also expected to be hotly debated.
On the sidelines of the sessions, PM Nguyen Tan Dzung will meet with leaders of other countries and international organisations, and US politicians and business people.
Viet Nam will mark the 30th year of its admission to the UN at the time the 62nd session of the UN General Assembly takes place.
Following the attendance of the 62nd UN General Assembly, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dzung will visit France from September 30th to October 3rd. (VNA)
