State President lauds GE for investment decision


President Nguyen Minh Triet praised the US group General Electric (GE)’s decision to expand investment in Viet Nam, while receiving Jeffrey J. Immelt, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of GE in Ha Noi on September 28.

President Triet expressed his belief in the future success and cooperation between GE and its Vietnamese partners. While thanking GE for the company’s contribution to Viet Nam’s economic development, he said he hoped that the group would continue to aid Viet Nam, while calling on other US groups and companies to invest in the country.

The State leader affirmed that Viet Nam is focusing on improving the investment environment, promoting economic integration and creating favourable conditions for foreign investors, including US companies.

He said with its stable economic growth Viet Nam would become an attractive destination for US investors.

Jeffrey R. Immelt, said that GE is eager to cooperate with Vietnamese partners in areas such as capital supply, high technology and the building of factories. The company is ready to share its experiences in management and aid Viet Nam in the training of managers, he added.

GE opened a representative office in Viet Nam in 1993. During his current working visit to Viet Nam, Jeffrey R.Immelt announced that GE will expand its investment in the country though a project to build a turbine manufacturing plant in Hai Phong city and with another deal with the Bank for Foreign Trade of Viet Nam.
