PM wraps up France visit

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, his wife and a high-ranking Vietnamese Government delegation left Paris on October 3, concluding their official visit to France made at the invitation of French Prime Minister Francois Fillon.

The Vietnamese PM decided to cut his visit short by cancelling a tour of Toulouse city so he could return home to take the helm of preparations ahead of approaching typhoon Lekima likely to hit northern and north central provinces this week and work following the aftermath of a bridge collapse in the Mekong delta province of Can Tho.

Earlier, PM Dung met with French Senate President Christian Poncelet and Lower House President Bernard Accoyer in which he affirmed France’s special position as the top partner of Viet Nam’s foreign policy.

The French parliament leaders expressed their hope that PM Dung’s visit will create a new turning point in the development of the France-Viet Nam relationship.

Speaking with students of the University of Paris, PM Dung emphasised the diversity and effectiveness of graduate and post-graduate training programmes between Viet Nam and France.

“Vietnamese students have received more scholarships from the French Government than other Asian students,” he noted, adding that hundreds of agreements have been signed between the two countries’ universities and there are currently 5,000 Vietnamese students and trainees studying in France.

PM Dung proposed the University of Paris expand on-the-spot training and boost its training cooperation with Viet Nam’s universities.

“Viet Nam always considers education and training as the national top policy and hopes to expand its effective and in-depth cooperation with France in the field,” stressed the Vietnamese PM.-(VNA)
