Vietnam-Italy relations at the best stage

The relations between Vietnam and Italy are now better than ever, said Vietnamese Ambassador to Italy Nguyen Van Nam.

The ambassador made the remark in anticipation of the coming visit to Vietnam by Italian Foreign Minister Massimo D’Alema, who is also Vice President of the Council of Ministers of Italy.

Early this year, Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung paid an official visit to Italy, during which the two parties reached a consensus on investment cooperation. The Italian Government selected Vietnam as its leading partner in Southeast Asia, while the Vietnamese Government pledged to facilitate Italy’s investment in the country.

Mr Nam said bilateral trade has exceeded US$1.1 billion. Many Italian enterprises wish to invest and expand production in Vietnam. For example, Piaggio scooter company will pour an additional 30 million euros into Vietnam, while another company will build a 30 million-euro plant in southern Binh Duong province to produce electric motors for export.

Cultural ties between the two countries have also developed. The “Italian Rainbow” festival held in Vietnam since April has drawn attention from a large local audience. Not long ago, the second Vietnamese cultural festival named “Dragon and Butterfly” was successfully organized in the Italian capital of Rome with assistance from local authorities. (VOV)
