PM asks Yunnan to cooperate in using river water
Yunnan (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on October 29 visited Yunnan province, China, where he asked the locality to cooperate with Viet Nam in exploiting the water resources of the Hong (Red) and Mekong rivers for mutual development.
PM Dung went to Yunnan after attending the fourth ASEAN-China Trade and Investment Summit and Expo in Nanning, Guangxi province and visiting the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
At his meeting with Yunnan’s leaders, PM Dung also requested the province to continue working with Vietnamese border provinces to accelerate the demarcation and planting of markers on the two countries’ borderline to meet the deadline of 2008 as agreed upon by their leaders.
The PM and the provincial leaders shared the same view that the ties between Viet Nam and Yunnan have been expanding.
They agreed to boost the ties by making good use of the joint working group between by four Vietnamese border provinces and Yunnan and the existing cooperation mechanisms.
“The Vietnamese Party, Government and people will do their best to bring the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between Vietnamese localities and Yunnan province to a new height,” PM Dung told the Yunnan authorities.
On their part, Yunnan leaders affirmed that they will work hard to boost all-around cooperation with Vietnamese provinces and contribute to the growth of the two countries’ ties.
