New Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Vietnam meets with Vietnamese President
In Hanoi, on October 31, the new Ambassador and Head of the Delegation of the European Commission to Vietnam Mr. Sean Doyle met with President Nguyen Minh Triet to present his credentials.
During the presentation ceremony, Mr. Doyle emphasized the increasing importance of the relationship between Vietnam and the European Union (EU), manifested in the intention to launch negotiations for a new Partnership and Co-operation Agreement, as well as the ongoing negotiations to establish a Free Trade Agreement between the EU and ASEAN, where Vietnam is playing a vital role as facilitator on behalf of ASEAN.
He expressed his pleasure at having the opportunity to serve in Vietnam at a time when Vietnam is seeking greater engagement with the international community and with the EU in particular.
Before taking up his position to Vietnam, Mr. Doyle served as Head of Unit in the Directorate General for Foreign Relations of the European Commission in Brussels, Belgium, responsible for sector policy co-ordination. Previously, he served as Head of the European Commission Delegation to Morocco. He was born on 21.9.1951 in Dublin (Ireland) and is married with two children.
He has BA in Languages and Literature, University College Dublin (1973),
Barrister, Hon. Society of King's Inns; Dublin (1978) and Macro and Micro-Economics, Wye College, UK (1993-1994). He can speak English, French; and basics of Spanish, German, Irish. (CPV)
