Vietnam supports constructive dialogue for a peace and security on Korean peninsula
“Vietnam is very pleased that the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and South Korea are together, taking important steps for peace and long-term stability on the Korea peninsula and the region.”
Vietnamese Chargé d’affaires to the United Nations, Hoang Chi Trung, said this at a joint discussion at the 62nd session of the General Assembly as the DPRK and South Korea introduced a draft of resolution A/62/L.4 on peace, security and unification on the Korean peninsula.
Vietnam highly praised the recent encouraging results that the DPRK and South Korea reached at the Inter-Korean summit held in Pyongyang in Oct 2-4 and the issue of the Joint Declaration because it reflected progress in the relationship between the DPRK and South Korea.
Vietnam believes that results from the 2nd Inter-Korean summit and in particular, the written content in the Joint Declaration on developing the relationship between the two Koreas will contribute to peace, cooperation and maintain comprehensive peace and stability on the Korean peninsula and the region.
It will take the reunification process between the two Koreas a step closer. Vietnam consistently supports the resolving of issues on the Korean peninsula through dialogue and peaceful negotiations.
Vietnam reckons that the international community and especially the United Nations will play an important role in helping the two Koreas to successfully implement ideals reached at the summit. As a country that has a good relationship with the both DPRK and South Korea, Vietnam commits to continue playing an active role in improving the relationship between the two Koreas. (CPV)
