Viet Nam-EU joint committee convenes sixth meeting

The Viet Nam-EU joint committee convened its sixth meeting in Brussels, Belgium on November 6.

The two sides reviewed the fifth meeting in Ha Noi in October 2005 and discussed measures for bilateral comprehensive cooperation in the future.

They also stressed the importance of the coming visit to Viet Nam by European Commission Chairman Jose Manuel Barroso and the future negotiations on a new agreement on partnership and cooperation.

Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Cao Viet Sinh, head of the Vietnamese delegation, hoped that effective measures would be worked out at this meeting to lift the Viet Nam-EU relations to a new height.

Both sides agreed that the next meeting will be held in Ha Noi in 2009.

Two-way trade turnover in the year’s first ten months reached nearly 10 billion USD and is expected to hit 12 billion USD for the whole year.

To date, EU has injected about 10.5 billion USD into its 64 FDI projects in Viet Nam.

Viet Nam and EU have signed cooperation agreements in different sectors, with focus on rural development, poverty eradication and hunger reduction, healthcare, education and administrative reform. (VNA)
