Party leader reaffirms strong ties with Cuba
Vietnam will do its best to foster the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation with Cuba and increase cooperation with the Latin American country at international forums, said Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh.
While receiving Cuban Minister of Basic Industry Yadira Garcia Vera in Hanoi on November 9, Mr. Manh said Vietnam protests and condemns the unjust imperialist embargo against Cuba and believes that the courageous and indomitable Cuban people will be victorious.
He described the visit by the Cuban minister as a vivid manifestation of the traditional and loyal relationship between the two parties and people.
He asked the Cuban minister to convey his best regards to President Fidel Castro and other Cuban Party and State leaders as well as his wish to the Cuban people for greater achievements in the future.
For her part, Yadira Garcia Vera said the Cuban people are resolved to elevate its country’s economic-trade ties with Vietnam on a par with the two countries’ political ties.
She also laid emphasis on her country’s determination to defend its independence and sovereignty and surmount difficulties and challenges stemming from the embargo imposed by the foreign imperialists.
The same day, the Cuban minister met with Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung who said Vietnam is willing to boost the exchange of trade and investment with Cuba.
Mr. Dung expressed approval for the Cuban Ministry of Basic Industry’s proposals on cooperation plans with the Vietnamese Ministry of Industry and Trade and oil and gas and electricity groups.
He asked the Cuban Government to facilitate Vietnamese businesses’ investment projects in Cuba, especially in oil refinery and petrochemistry technologies, and at the same time broaden cooperation in culture, education and training, trade and other areas of the two countries’ strength.
