Viet Nam-Pakistan diplomatic ties marked
The Embassy of Viet Nam in Pakistan hosted a meeting on November 10 to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two nations.
Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretary Masood Khalid was among the participants.
In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to Pakistan Nguyen Quang Thuc spoke of the significance of Viet Nam-Pakistan diplomatic ties.
The diplomat expressed his delight at positive developments in the friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, particularly following Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf’s official visit to Viet Nam in May 2001 and State President Tran Duc Luong’s trip to Pakistan in March 2004.
He highlighted Viet Nam’s foreign policy of independence, sovereignty, openness, diversification, multilateralisation and active integration into the world.
The policy has brought in great achievements to Viet Nam and helped raised its position in the international arena, he said.
The ambassador was also optimistic that friendly and cooperative relations between Viet Nam and Pakistan will be further strengthened.
Addressing the ceremony, Masood Khalid said Pakistan was one of a few countries that led in establishing diplomatic ties with Viet Nam.
He said he respected the country’s renovation achievements and noted its success was due to the clear-sighted direction of Viet Nam’s leadership and the tireless efforts of the people.
Khalid also spoke of how the exchange of high-level delegations and the opening of the Vietnamese Embassy in Islamabad in 2005 have helped the two countries become closer, and created a platform for the development of their bilateral relationship.
He reiterated his country’s resolve to enhance its relations with Viet Nam and other East Asian countries for their common wealth and for the sake of peace, stability and development in the region and the world. (VNA)
