Vietnamese, Indonesian foreign ministries hold talks

The second political consultation between Vietnamese and Indonesian Foreign Ministries was held in Ha Noi on December 3.

The two sides agreed to promote the implementation of high-level agreements, especially those reached during the Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung’s visit to Indonesia in August 2007.

Both sides reached consensus on an action program to implement the 2003 joint declaration on Viet Nam-Indonesia comprehensive and friendly cooperation for the 21st century and on coordinating a channel for ministerial strategic consultation.

The two sides discussed ways to promote bilateral ties in agriculture, oil and gas, and tourism.

Negotiations on delimiting the special economic zones and joint coordination in settling fishermen’s issues was also discussed, along with international and regional issues of mutual concern.

They were unanimous in promoting bilateral cooperation within the ASEAN bloc and establishing a cooperation mechanism at the United Nations when the two countries are non-permanent members of the UN Security Council in 2008.

They also agreed that the next consultation meeting will be held in Indonesia next year.

The Vietnamese delegation to the meeting was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Dao Viet Trung and the Indonesian delegation, by head of the Asia-Pacific-Africa Department Primo Alui Joelianto. - (VNA).
