Australia helps preserve national park in Phu Tho

The Australian International Development Agency (AusAid) has pledged 36,720 USD in aid to help preserve the Xuan Son national park in northern Phu Tho province.

A document to this effect was signed recently between Tran Dang Lau, director of the park, and Kenvin Paul Vang, managing director of the Australian Fund for Asian and Pacific People.

The project is geared to develop household economy and reduce poverty for groups of ethnic people residing in the northern buffer zone of the park, preventing negative impacts on forests, protecting biodiversity and developing sources of precious genes of rare flora for high economic value.

Raising public awareness and improving forest-based incomes for the locals for sustainable forest and environmental protection and management, as well as increase management capacity for forest wardens are also part of the project.- (VNA)
