Indonesian senior MP praises ties with Viet Nam
Jakarta (VNA) – Chairman of the People Consultative Assembly (MPR) Hidayat Nur Wahid highly appreciated Indonesia-Viet Nam ties and pledged that the MPR would facilitate development of those relations.
The Indonesian law-maker made the remarks while receiving Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Huu Dung in Jakarta on January 3, adding that the two countries should tighten bilateral cooperation to turn Southeast Asia into a strategic region in Asia .
Hidayat Nur Wahid said that Viet Nam was an example for other countries in the past struggle for national independence and the on-going development.
Indonesia needs to learn from Viet Nam , especially in agriculture, he said. Viet Nam used to import rice from Indonesia and 15 years later it became one of the world’s leading rice exporters.
Earlier in the day, Ambassador Dung was received by Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda, who praised cooperation between the two countries.
As non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, Viet Nam and Indonesia should strengthen coordination to contribute to peace, stability and development in the world, the minister said.
