Nation thanks foreign countries for important cooperation

Ha Noi (VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem has thanked foreign governments and international organisations for their important assistance to and cooperation with Viet Nam over the recent past.
At a banquet in honour of foreign diplomatic corps in Viet Nam on the occasion of the traditional Lunar New Year (Tet) festival in Ha Noi on Feb. 1, Deputy PM Khiem also expressed his gratitude to the effective and positive contributions by the foreign ambassadors, charges d’affaires and chief representatives to promoting the multi-faceted cooperation and friendship between Viet Nam and foreign countries and international organisations.
“Viet Nam will pursue the renewal process comprehensively and implement consistently its external policy of independence, openness, multi-lateralisation and diversification. Viet Nam is always a trustful friend and partner of other countries and an active and responsible member in the international community,” affirmed the deputy PM.
He expressed the hope that Viet Nam would continue receiving international friends’ cooperation and assistance to its sustainable development.
Deputy PM Khiem said Viet Nam has entered a new phase in its international integration process. “Viet Nam’s election to the United Nations Security Council as a non-permanent member for the 2008-09 term is more vivid evidence of Viet Nam ’s achievements, reflecting the international community’s confidence in the country’s renewal process and its contribution to peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world,” he said.
The deputy PM emphasised that the year 2008 has a significant meaning in Viet Nam’s development as it is the year that the country and other ASEAN members start a new cooperation period within the framework of ASEAN’s new Charter and Viet Nam begins to assume the heavy responsibility as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council.
Head of the diplomatic corps Argentinian Ambassador to Viet Nam Thomas Ferrari said that Viet Nam has successfully affirmed its position on the international arena, quickly responded to new challenges and been determined to build an active community for prosperous and sustainable development.
The Argentinian diplomat reaffirmed the international community’s determination and will to further develop its relationship with Viet Nam through cooperation for peace and mutual benefits.
