Viet Nam condemns attacks on East Timor leaders


New York (VNA) – The Vietnamese representative to the United Nations Security Council condemned the attacks on the President and the Prime Minister of East Timor.
At the UN Security Council’s urgent session on the East Timor situation held on February 11, Ambassador Le Luong Minh expressed the Vietnamese Government and people’s solidarity with the Government and people of East Timor .
He wished President Jose Ramos-Horta fast recovery to resume his work as East Timor ’s chief.
The Vietnamese representative called on concerned parties to refrain from violence, resolve their differences and speed up national reconciliation and construction through peaceful dialogues for the sake of East Timor and peace and stability in the region.
“Viet Nam supports the United Nations’ role through the maintenance of the operation of the UN Integrated Mission in Timor-Leste (UNMIT) in order to continue aiding the East Timor Government in reinforcing security and stabilising the situation,” the ambassador said.
