Ha Noi (VNA) – A Vietnamese senior government leader expressed hope that the experiences shared by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) would help the country secure a sustainable economic growth and effectively curb inflation.
Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung made the remark when he met a delegation of ADB Executive Directors headed by Saad Hashim, who represents the group of ASEAN member countries, at a reception in Ha Noi on February 25.
“ADB’s cooperation with Viet Nam has produced positive effects on the country’s socio-economic development,” Hung said, citing the fight against poverty, infrastructure development and the building of competitive capacity.
He also expressed hope that cooperation between the financial institution and Viet Nam will continue to grow in the coming time.
Saad Hashim said he was impressed with the growth of the Vietnamese economy and successes the country has made in the fight against poverty, the implementation of millennium development goals and the use of foreign aid.
Viet Nam ’s current development policies match with those of ADB, he emphasised, saying the bank is considering assistance and investment to developing, low-income countries, including Viet Nam , in the 2008-2020 period.
The ADB official revealed that investment for the 2008-2020 period will still focus on infrastructure for the energy and transport sectors, finance, banking, education and healthcare.
