Association aims closer relations with Cuba
The Executive Committee 2008-2013 tenure elected Minister of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan as the association’s Chair.
Its new program of action emphasised boosting public education and social campaigns in the two countries to raise public awareness about the history, country and people of Viet Nam and Cuba .
The organisation also plans to hold activities to strengthen friendship and solidarity with Cuba and maintain regular contact with the Cuban Institute for Friendship with Other Peoples and the Cuba-Viet Nam Friendship Society.
According to the new orientation of action released at the closing of the meeting, the association also said it intends to have regular exchanges of visits and information.
The previous term saw the association’s active participation in international forums to support Cuba , including a conference calling for a world balance and the third Asia-Pacific Conference in Solidarity with Cuba . The association also actively responded an international campaign to “work for World Conscience.”
In addition, the friendship organisation coordinated with the Cuban Embassy to hold meetings to support Cuba , demanding the US lift its embargo against the island nation and give justice to five Cuban young people held in US custody.
Activists also celebrated Cuba ’s major anniversaries such as the National Day on January 1, the Hiron victory on April 19 and the attack to the Mondaca barrack on July 26.(VNA)
