Vietnamese Party leader holds talks with Angolan President
The Angolan President welcome General Secretary Manh and the Vietnamese high-level delegation on their State visit to Angola . He described the visit as a historic event in Angola-Vietnam friendly and cooperative ties.
General Secretary Manh said despite the geographical distance between them, Vietnam and Angola have many historical similarities and the two peoples have always supported each other in their struggles for national independence, sovereignty, peace, democracy, development and social progress.
He expressed his belief that the visit would create new driving forces for intensive, stable and sustainable development of Vietnam-Angola friendly and cooperative ties.
During their private talks later, the two leaders expressed their pleasure at the development of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and stressed that Vietnam and Angola have potentials and strong points that can complement each other for mutual benefits.
They pledged to continue to foster their comprehensive partnership, built on equality and mutual benefit and assistance.
The two sides agreed to increase meetings between high-ranking officials, expand the exchange of visits and practical and useful cooperation between ministries, agencies and localities.
They were unanimous in the resolve to expand economic cooperation and boost bilateral trade.
The Angolan President informed General Secretary Manh of Angola’s decision to recognise Vietnam as a full market economy and said his country highly values contributions made by Vietnamese experts and expatriates to its national construction and development.
General Secretary Manh thanked the Angolan President, Government and people for their support and stressed that Vietnam always encourage its nationals in Angola to contribute to the African country’s national construction cause and work as a bridge to promote friendship and cooperation between the two nations.
Party General Secretary Manh and Angolan President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos shared common views on many regional and international issues. The two sides agreed that disagreements in relations between nations must be handled through peaceful measures in line with principles of the United Nations Charter without using force or threat of force.
They stressed the need to strengthen the key role of the UN in global tasks, renew and democratise UN institutions with the participation of all member countries regardless of their sizes or levels of development.
The two sides applauded and supported the international community’s efforts to reduce poverty, improve the living conditions of people and fulfil the Millennium Goals set by the UN.
The two sides agreed to increase their cooperation at international organisations and forums, boost effective and practical multilateral cooperation within the framework of the New Asian-African Strategic Partnership (NAASP), and the Non-Alignment Movement as well as the cooperation between the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC).
General Secretary Manh affirmed that Vietnam is willing to help Angola expand its cooperation with the Southeast Asian region while Angola is willing to help Vietnam reach out to the South and the Central of Africa. The two countries applauded the widening of their multi-sided cooperation with the participation of regional and international organisations and other third parties.
Party General Secretary Manh invited the Angolan President to visit Vietnam in an appropriate time and the President accepted the invitation with pleasure.
On the same day, the two high-ranking delegations of Vietnam and Angola held talks under the chair of Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem and Angolan Minister of Social Welfare Joao Baptista Kussumua.
After the talks, Party General Secretary Manh and President Jose Eduardo Dos Santos witnessed the signing of a framework agreement on economic, scientific and technological, and cultural cooperation, a trade agreement, an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders and a protocol on oil and gas cooperation between the two countries.
Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh and his entourage arrived in Luanda on April 2 for a State visit.
The Vietnamese Party leader was welcomed with a grand ceremony for State leaders held at the Presidential Palace in Luanda on April 3.
