Vietnam supports Sierra Leone’s reconstruction

Vietnam’s representative to the United Nation Security Council (UNSC) Le Luong Minh has called on the United Nations, regional organizations and the international community to continue assisting Sierra Leone to overcome difficulties, promote socio-economic reconstruction and strengthen its international integration process.

At a UNSC meeting on Sierra Leone in New York on May 7, Ambassador Minh appreciated Sierra Leone’s initial progress in the process of peace consolidation and socio-economic reconstruction. This is reflected by the country’s overall stable security situation, enhanced dialogue with countries of the Mano River Union to resolve issues of mutual interest, and comprehensive preparations for the July 5 local council elections, he said.

He praised efforts by the Sierra Leonean Government to improve priority domains such as energy and water supply, transportation, employment, economic revival, and social services delivery.

The ambassador welcomed the continued cooperation between Sierra Leone and the Peacebuilding Commission and other development partners to implement the targets set in the Peacebuilding Cooperation Framework.
