Vietnam, Benin step up agricultural cooperation

State President Nguyen Minh Triet has received Pascal Irene Koupaki, Minister of State and Special Envoy of the President of the Republic of Benin, who is in Hanoi to discuss bilateral cooperation in agriculture.

At a reception ceremony on May 8, Mr Triet said bilateral cooperation in some fields, especially agriculture, has not met each country’s potential.

He proposed to send experts to Benin to help the country promote the planting of wet rice. He said Vietnamese experts are ready to carry out cooperative projects once Benin has prepared cultivable land and workers.

Meanwhile, Mr Koupaki said the Benin government pledges to increase its food production by resorting to its own resources and facilitating investment by Vietnamese enterprises.

He expressed the belief that with Vietnam’s assistance Benin will ensure its food security and achieve its target of having the same growth rate as Vietnam in 15-20 years.
