VN pays respect to Chinese earthquake victims
Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung, on behalf of the Party, State, Government and people, laid wreaths at the Chinese embassy in Hanoi on May 19 to remember the victims of the recent earthquake in south-west China.
The PM extended the nation’s sympathy and offered a message of condolence to the Chinese Party, State and people, especially the families of the victims.
“We believe that Chinese people will soon overcome the aftermaths and return to the normal life,” the PM’s message said.
Vietnamese ministries and authorities also laid wreaths at the Chinese embassy in Hanoi.
The Vietnamese Embassy, representative offices, businessmen and students in China have raised funds to assist earthquake victims.
Business came to a standstill at the Lao Cai – Hekou border gate, between Vietnam’s Lao Cai province and China’s Yunnan province, in ten minutes of silence that honoured the estimated 50,000 earthquake victims.
China also held three minutes of silence exactly one week after the earthquake hit Sichuan province, marking the beginning of their national three days of mourning.
