VN-Rwanda relationship advancing to a new height
VNGOP – At the invitation of State President Nguyễn Minh Triết, President of the Republic of Rwanda Paul Kagame started his 4-day official visit to Việt Nam on May 23.
State President Nguyễn Minh Triết held talks with his Rwandan counterpart right after the solemn welcoming ceremony on May 23.
The two leaders had thorough discussions on orientations and measures to lift the bilateral ties to a new height. They also agreed to enhance coordination in the regional and international forums.
President Paul Kagame confirmed that Rwanda, as a member of the Francophonie community, expects to strengthen friendship and cooperation with Việt Nam in all fields. In health and education, Rwanda wishes Việt Nam to speed up student exchange programs and help Rwanda produce medicines for tropical and malaria diseases.
The guest also suggested Việt Nam send educationalists and agriculturalists to help Rwanda develop rice cultivation and aquaculture, so that Rwanda can ensure its food security, improve people's living standard, and successfully fulfill “Millennium Goals” on poverty reduction.
After the talk, the two Presidents witnessed the signing ceremony of the Agreement on agricultural exchange and cooperation; Agreement on health cooperation; and the Agreement on education and science research.
Later the same day, PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng had a meeting with President Paul Kagame.
PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng proposed some fields for bilateral cooperation, namely post and telecommunication, information technology, trade, tourism, and infrastructure construction.
For his part, President Paul Kagame agreed with the host’s proposals and expressed his desire that Rwanda would soon become Việt Nam’s economic partner.
