France-Vietnam Friendship Association meets

Paris (VNA) – The France-Vietnam Friendship Association (AAVF) is hoped to make more contributions to strengthening the two countries’ friendship and cooperation, said Vietnamese ambassador to France Le Kinh Tai at the AAVF’s 13 th congress held in Paris on May 31 and June 1.

Addressing the congress, the ambassador highly valued the association’s contributions made during the cause for Vietnam ’s independence in the past as well as the country’s current development since AAVF’s establishment in 1961.

The congress, held every three years, is a chance for AAVF members to evaluate their activities in the past, draw action plan in the future, and elect a new executive committee.

The association has over three years from 2006 held many activities in support of Vietnamese ethnic minorities, poor children and Agent Orange dioxin victims, reported the executive committee of the 12 th term at the congress.

Also from 2006 to 2008, the AAVF donated more than 232,000 euros to finance 36 charity projects in 16 provinces and cities of Vietnam . It usually held in France seminars, exhibitions and film shows or about Vietnam and its people.

The association also collected over 10,000 signatures to support Vietnamese A/O dioxin victims.

The new chair of the association, Helene Luc, said the AAVF will make all efforts to develop charitable activities and hold advertising programmes on Vietnam ’s culture, economy and tourism.
