Gov’t, NA leaders greet and farewell ambassadors


Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung and National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong on June 10 gave separate receptions to incoming and outgoing ambassadors.

Vietnam will spare no efforts to beef up friendship and cooperation with Indonesia , particularly in economics, trade and investment, PM Dung told the newly accredited Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Pitono Purnomo.

Ambassador Pitono Purnomo said bilateral relations have grown fruitfully following PM Dung’s visit to Indonesia last year, noting that two-way trade increased by 30 percent to reach 2.4 billion USD in 2007.

The diplomat revealed that the Government of Indonesia is planning to host an ASEAN Summit on food security and hopes to receive support from Vietnam .

The PM applauded the move and pledged to back Indonesia ’s bid to host the event.

Receiving outgoing Mongolian Ambassador Baasanjav Ganbold, PM Dung reiterated Vietnam ’s consistent policy of further promoting the traditional friendship with Mongolia in order to bring practical benefits to the people of both nations.
The government leader called on Mongolia to create better conditions for Vietnamese businesses to make long-term investment in the fields of mining, oil and gas, and boost cooperation in economics, trade, investment, tourism, education and training.

Meeting with the newly accredited Turkish Ambassador, Ates Oktem, NA Chairman Trong said he was delighted by the constant developments in Vietnam-Turkey relationship, 30 years after the establishment of diplomatic ties.

The top legislator urged Ambassador Oktem to assist in expanding practical and effective cooperation between the two countries and legislatures.

During his talks with the newly appointed Romanian Ambassador, Dumitru Olaru, the NA Chairman said Vietnam attaches great importance to relations with traditional friends, including Romania , and expected that bilateral ties will develop stronger in the future.

The ambassadors all spoke about their fine impressions of Vietnam and its people and pledged to work toward closer friendship and cooperation in all areas with the nation, particularly increasing exchanges and cooperative ties among the legislative bodies and people.
