PM instructs more ODA capital for Central Highlands

Hanoi (VNA) – Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has asked the Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) to coordinate with relevant agencies to pay more attention to mobilising official development assistance (ODA) capital for the Central Highlands.

To help Central Highlands provinces easily access ODA capital, the PM also required the ministry to provide necessary ODA information and documents to these localities and organise institutional and management training courses for officials in charge of ODA projects in the region.

The MPI is also requested to closely work with donors to timely settle localities’ proposals, thus accelerating the region’s ODA disbursement.

Central Highlands region comprises five provinces, namely Kon Tum, Gia Lai, Dak Lak, Dak Nong and Lam Dong. Central Highlands is facing more difficulties in socio-economic development than other regions in the country due to its shortage of skilful technical workers, poor infrastructural facilities and people’s low living conditions.

Apart from the government’s capital, Central Highlands provinces have received international community’s assistance, but at the modest level. The ODA capital poured into the region only made up 0.22 percent of the total 1.3 billion USD for the country in the first half of the year.
