Vietnam, Singapore diversify rapport over 35 years


Hanoi (VNA) – The friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Singapore over the past 35 years have been expanded to and diversified in various fields of politics, economics, trade, investment and culture.

The remark was made by President of the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisations (VUFO) Vu Xuan Hong at a meeting held on Aug. 1 to mark the 35th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties.

He asserted the fruitful ties between the two countries would be further developed also due to favourable conditions and constant efforts made by the two countries.

Sharing Hong’s view, Singaporean Ambassador to Vietnam Lim Thuan Kuan said the two countries have enjoyed a closer relations over recent years.

He said the two countries’ cooperation in education, defence, justice and culture has been broadened and strengthened in accordance with the spirit of their leaders’ joint statement on comprehensive cooperation framework in the 21st century.

Singapore now is one of leading trade and investment partner of Vietnam with over 500 valid projects capitalised at nearly 11 billion USD. The two-way trade in 2007 reached 9.8 billion USD.

The education and culture cooperation between the two countries have been also blooming.
