Vietnam to promote cooperation with Cuba and Australia

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on September 3 said Vietnam will spare no effort to foster traditional friendship with Cuba.

Hanoi (VNA) – While receiving newly-accredited Cuban Frendesman Turro Gongalez, the PM Dung said Vietnam and Cuba have seen fine traditional friendly ties, particularly in politics and diplomacy, the PM said, adding, however, that economic relations remain modest and fail to match the two countries’ potentials.

The newly-appointed ambassador said he is preparing for the upcoming meeting of the joint-government committee, where the two sides will discuss measures to push up bilateral ties, particularly in economics, trade and investment.

The same day, the PM spoke highly of the contributions to Vietnam – Australia, made by Australian Ambassador Bill Tweddell during his term in Vietnam .

During a reception of the out-going diplomat, PM Dung expressed his pleasure at the development of cooperation between the two countries. He cited a rapid increase in two-way trade, Australia’s investment in Vietnam and its official development assistance to the Southeast Asian country as examples.

Progress has been also made in labour, tourism, education and training cooperation and the My Thuan Bridge is a vivid demonstration of the friendship between the two nations, the PM further said.

The ambassador said in any capacity, he will try his best to promote cooperation and friendship between the two countries./.
