Deputy PM requests more sustainable poverty reduction

(VNA) – Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Sinh Hung on October 20 reiterated that poverty reduction is a major policy of the Party and the State and a focal task of all local governments.

The deputy PM was chairing a meeting of the Government’s Steering Committee for Implementation of Anti-poverty Programmes to discuss a scheme on assisting poor districts across the nation to sustainably carry out the job between now and 2015 and orientation for 2020.

Hung stressed the importance of infrastructure and human resources development to ensure that anti-poverty programmes are conducted in a sustainable manner.

He asked concerned agencies to hammer out appropriate anti-poverty solutions for each locality on the basis of serious study of the reasons behind poverty in that locality.

The deputy PM assigned the Ministry of Planning and Investment to verify poverty-reduction plans of 61 districts regarded as the poorest and requested that the Ministry of Finance allocate funds to these districts’ plans as of next year.
