Vietnam’s position has improved, says IPU leader
The IPU leader made the remark while receiving a Vietnamese National Assembly delegation led by Nguyen Van Son, Chairman of the NA Commission for External Relations, during its working visit to Switzerland from December 12-13.
General Secretary Johnson highly valued Vietnam ’s contributions to the common cause of the world as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and a member of the IPU Executive Committee.
For his part, the Vietnamese delegation head informed his host of Vietnam ’s achievements during the renewal process as well as the Vietnamese legislative body’s role and activities in the cause of building a law-governed state of the people, by the people and for the people.
He also spoke highly of the IPU’s role and contributions to boosting multilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation for peace, friendship and sustainable development.
The IPU General Secretary briefed about the global largest inter-parliamentary organisation’s activities and areas of priorities in the coming time, with special attention to be paid to strengthening cooperation and experience exchange in law making and supervision activities.
At the working session, the two sides exchanged measures to further expand the coordination and cooperation between the Vietnamese NA and IPU. The Vietnamese side expressed wish that IPU will help it improve its capacity in legislation, supervision and international cooperation.
The Vietnamese delegation also worked with the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation and other international organisations in Geneva to discuss several issues relating to a draft law on Vietnamese representative offices abroad which will be submitted to the 12 th National Assembly during its 5 th session./.
