Italy hopes for stronger trade links with Vietnam

(VNA) – Italy will continue to give priority to developing its relationship with Vietnam and considers the Southeast Asian country one of the five bridgeheads to help to increase its foreign trade between now and 2020, said asenior Italian diplomat.

Italian Deputy Foreign Minister, Stefania Craxi told a banquet held in Rome on December 16 to mark the 35 th anniversary of the establishment of Vietnamese-Italian diplomatic ties that the Italian Foreign Ministry will support Italian businesses who have promoted economic ties with Vietnam .

Vietnam ’s Ambassador to Italy Nguyen Van Nam thanked the Italian government and people for their assistance to Vietnam during its struggle for national independence, as well as during its process of international economic integration.

He said he was pleased with the increasingly developed multifaceted cooperation between the two countries, especially in trade and culture.

Last month, a 300-strong Italian business delegation, led by Minister of Economics Claudio Scajola. visited Vietnam to seek business opportunities.

Italy now has 28 FDI projects in Vietnam , with total registered investment capital of 114.5 million USD. Two-way trade between the two countries exceeds 1.5 billion USD annually.
