Vietnamese legislative body vows to further increase ties with China

Hanoi (VNA) – National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong said the Vietnamese legislative body will do its utmost to help further the Vietnam-China relationship fostered by generations of leaders and peoples.

The National Assembly Chairman made the statement at the reception of the newly-accredited Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam , Sun Guoxiang, in Hanoi on January 5.

The Vietnamese leader welcomed the new Chinese Ambassador, describing the two countries’ current relationship as growing, with exchanges of visits at all levels made frequently and two-way trade value reaching 21 billion USD in 2008.

He applauded the completion of land border demarcation and land marker planting as an important historic event in the Vietnam-China relationship, that helps facilitate the development of further ties and cooperation between border localities.

NA Chairman Trong said he admired China ’s immense achievements in national construction, despite huge losses caused by natural disasters and adverse impacts from the global financial and economic crisis in 2008.

The achievements and development experiences of China are useful for Vietnam , said Chairman Trong.

He expressed his hope that the ambassador will maximise his role in promoting the friendship and cooperation between the two countries as his predecessors did.

Though the two countries’ relationship is growing, there are a lot of works that need to be done to meet the people’s expectations, said Ambassador Sun.

Based on traditional relations and similarities, China and Vietnam can cooperate in overcoming impacts from the global financial and economic crisis, he said.

“The Chinese party, State and people always treasure the relationship with Vietnam ,” said the ambassador, promising to make his best to translate high-level agreements on building the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries into actions.
