Expatriates worldwide celebrate lunar New Year

VNA - Vietnamese embassies in European and Middle East countries held lunar New Year festivals for overseas Vietnamese on January 24, just one day away from the Year of Buffalo.

In Russia , the celebration included art performances with participation of pop stars and a traditional music band and a fashion show.

Ambassador Bui Dinh Dinh highlighted traditional ties between Vietnam and Russia , especially economic relations with trade revenues up by 64 percent to over 1.64 billion USD last year.

In Belgium , overseas Vietnamese at the celebration expressed deep sentiments towards the native land, saying they always considered the embassy a common home for all abroad.

The overseas Vietnamese community donated 2,100 Euro for the poor at home. A Belgian channeled 400 Euro in aid to Agent Orange victims through the Vietnamese embassy.

Vietnamese students in Switzerland gathered at the embassy to celebrate a Tet festival away from home. Joining students at the event were national representatives at the United Nations, the World Trade Organisation and other international organizations headquartered in Geneva .

Celebrations were also held in Italy and Qatar in the Middle East./.
