Germany vows to maintain ODA to Vietnam
During a working session with the Vietnamese Foreign Ministry during his visit to Vietnam, State Secretary of the Federal Foreign Office Peter Ammon affirmed that his country wants to enhance its cooperation with Vietnam at multilateral forums, particularly the UN.
During the session, Ammon and Vietnamese Deputy FM, Nguyen Quoc Cuong, discussed measures to boost cooperation in the fields of politics, economics, culture and education.
They also agreed to increase their exchange of high-ranking delegations and intensify trade and investment relations.
The Vietnamese side vowed to provide favourable conditions for German businesses investing in long-term, effective projects in Vietnam.
The German official said that cooperation in education and training was one of the main priorities in the relationship between Germany and Vietnam, adding that his country would like to transform Vietnam-Germany University into one of the region’s leading educational establishments.
The German Government would expand its scholarship programme to allow 100 Vietnamese students each year to pursue master’s and doctorate degrees, in Germany, he said.
Vietnam and Germany also agreed to cooperate closely in organising the “Germany Year in Vietnam” and “Vietnam Year in Germany” events in 2010 to mark the 35th anniversary of the two countries’ diplomatic ties.
On this occasion, the two sides signed a memorandum of understanding to increase cooperation in the future.
Ammon is on a working visit to Vietnam from Feb. 19-21, hoping to implement a number of agreements reached during the visit to Germany by Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung in March last year.
He is scheduled to meet with Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment Truong Van Doan./.
