Ethnic groups’ role in border defence highlighted

VNA- Party General Secretary Nong Duc Manh has pointed out the important role played by ethnic groups living in Vietnam’s border regions and islands in defending the nation’s sovereignty.

The Party leader made this remark during a meeting on Feb. 23 with 60 village patriarchs and representatives of religious organisations and ethnic groups who, he said, were typical examples of the national border defence movement.

General Secretary Manh stressed that the construction and defence of the nation’s border was an important task for entire Party, nation and army.

He praised the border defence forces and the ethic groups in border areas and islands for their high sense of responsibility and solidarity in maintaining security in border areas, waterways and islands, thus contributing to the peace, stability and development of the country and the friendship and cooperation with Vietnam’s neighbouring countries.

The leader expressed his wishes that the delegates would continue to provide a shining example and encourage others to develop production, preserve cultural traditions, actively participate in social order and security movements and contribute to the friendly relationships that have evolved with those who live in neighbouring countries./.
