Border guards celebrate 50th anniversary

VOV - National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong praised the border guard force for its outstanding contributions to national construction and defence at a conference in Hanoi on March 2 to mark its 50th anniversary (March 3).

“Over the past half a century, generations of border guards have united to overcome hardships and devote themselves to the Party and people to fulfil their duties, forming the key force to guard national borders and ensure security,” said Mr Trong.

Mr Trong affirmed that national borders are a sacred and inviolable part of the nation and they hold a strategic position in national defence and security.

The Party and State attach great importance to defending national sovereignty, territorial integrity and the inviolability of borders and islands, said Mr Trong.

He asked ministries, sectors, Party organisations and administrations to be well aware of the Party and State’s guidelines and policies as well as the Government’s decisions concerning border guard work. He asked them to closely incorporate tasks on national defence and security into those on socio-economic development, give opinions on strategies for building and developing national borders and islands, and provide support to help border guards fulfil their duties.

Mr Trong presented the title “The Hero of the People’s Armed Forces” for the second time to the Border Guard Force for its outstanding achievements in national border management and defence in the new era.
