Vietnam values ties with Kuwait

VNA - Vietnam recognises the importance of developing ties with countries in the Middle East, including Kuwait , which has become Vietnam ’s important partner in the region.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made this affirmation during a meeting with the country’s ruler, Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-jaber Al-sabah, during his on-going visit to the country on March 11.
 
The Vietnamese PM asked the king to support cooperation between the two countries by encouraging Kuwaiti enterprises to invest in petrochemical projects in  Vietnam , as well as facilitating Vietnamese businesses’ investment in oil and gas exploration and exploitation projects in  Kuwait  and the  Persian Gulf .
 
The Vietnamese government is willing to create favourable conditions for Kuwaiti enterprises to invest in large-scale projects of mutual concern in   Vietnam  , PM Dung said.
 
Emir Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-jaber Al-sabah voiced his support for certain aspects of cooperation between the two countries, particularly in oil and gas, finance and banking and real estate, areas in which   Kuwait   has traditional strengths.
 
On the same day, PM Dung met with Kuwaiti National Assembly Speaker Jassem Al Kharafi.  
 
The Vietnamese PM praised the results of cooperation between  Vietnam  and   Kuwait  ’s legislative bodies, which have helped to promote mutual understanding and support bilateral economic-trade relations.  
 
In 2008, bilateral trade between the two reached 120 million USD, three times more than in 2007.  
 
The Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group is currently working with the Kuwait Petroleum Incorporation and a Japanese partner to construct the 6 billion USD Nghi Son oil refinery.
      
 Speaker Jassem Al Kharafi reiterated  Kuwait ’s determination to make   Vietnam   its top priority in its policy towards the Orient.  
 
For further development, the Speaker proposed that the two countries increase the frequency of delegation exchanges to implement the contents of previously-signed agreements and enhance cooperation in finance-banking, energy, agriculture, trade and labour.
 
He also expressed his hope that the Vietnamese government would support the Kharafi Group’s plan to invest in hotels, resorts and property in Vietnam./.
