PM calls for Kuwaiti investment in Vietnam
The Vietnamese government leader made the call at the Vietnam-Kuwait Business Forum on March 11, during his three-day official visit to Kuwait .
Dung told representatives of the 200 participating businesses that the Vietnamese government will strive to create the most favourable conditions regarding mechanisms and policies for Kuwaiti investors to conduct long-term, successful business in Vietnam .
In recent years, cooperation between Vietnam and Kuwait has developed steadily across various fields, including economics, trade, investment, finance, oil and gas, labour, agriculture and aviation, he said.
The two countries signed a number of important cooperative agreements, such as a Framework Agreement on Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation, an Agreement on Air Transport, a Protocol on Cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries, and an Agreement on Investment Encouragement and Protection.
Two-way trade between Vietnam and Kuwait has rocketed in recent years, reaching 120 million USD in 2008, tripling 2007’s figure.
Several Kuwaiti companies have investigated the implementation of large-scale investment projects in Vietnam , including the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex and a project to construct a multi-purpose conference and exhibition centre in Ho Chi Minh City .
However, Dung said that bilateral economic, trade and investment cooperation remains at a modest level and yet to live up to the potential and expectations of the two countries.
On the same day, Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung received the General Director of the Kuwait Fund for Arabic Economic Development and the Managing Director of the Kuwait Investment Fund./.
