Germany helps to restore Hue to its glory days

VNA - German experts are conducting surveys on the Buu Thanh (King Tu Duc’s tomb) in Hue city, in preparation for the painstaking restoration of the city’s historical relics and artefacts to their former glory.

The Hue heritage centre said that experts from the Germany Conservation, Restoration and Education Projects will help to restore the relics using traditional lime mortar, which is simply a mixture of lime and water, instead of cement, which is widely used today.

The project is expected to be completed by early 2010, following up on the success of a similar project, also funded by Germany, to restore the paintings hanging on the walls of An Dinh Palace.

King Tu Duc died in 1883 and was buried in the Buu Thanh inside the Royal citadel of the former imperial city of Hue./.
