Overseas Vietnamese join prayers for peace
At the ceremony, Superior Bonze Thich Duc Thien told the overseas Vietnamese about the Phat Tich Pagoda – a major Buddhist centre in Vietnam. The delegation also heard lectures on Buddhism and world peace given by Venerable Thich Huyen Dieu who built Vietnamese pagodas in India and Nepal.
The delegation offered incense to world’s largest jade statue of Buddha which is currently on display at the pagoda and prayed for world peace as well as national peace and prosperity.
Deputy Foreign Minister and Chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs Nguyen Thanh Son said the overseas Vietnamese delegation had returned home for the celebrations of the Ho Chi Minh Trail’s 50th anniversary.
The celebration programme, named “The legendary road”, is one of the activities in implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution 36, which aim to helps overseas Vietnamese to better understand the country’s history, the patriotism and sacrifices for the country by older generations in the struggle for national independence as well as the Party and State’s caring policy on people’s spiritual life.
Tran Van Cuu, a veteran of Truong Son battles who now live in Cambodia, expressed his pleasure to take part in the programme.
Vu Khac Loc, an overseas Vietnamese from Thailand, expressed his belief that with Vietnam’s rising prestige in the international arena, Vietnamese people at home and abroad would promote unity and contribute to the home country’s development./.
