PM asks officials to control the macro economy

Focusing on controlling the macro economy to ensure an economic balance is one of the government’s major socio-economic priorities from now until the end of the year, stressed Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung at May’s regular cabinet meeting in Hanoi.

Accordingly, the State Bank of Vietnam is now required to closely follow up changes in the monetary, interest and forex markets and to control credit growth to ensure the banking system is safe and secure.

He also requested that all ministries, branches and localities continue to focus on fighting economic decline and increasing production and trade.

They must also work to ensure social welfare, especially providing jobs for the unemployed and housing for disadvantaged families, students and workers in industrial zones.

In the first five months of this year, despite a slight recovery, the economy is still facing a number of difficulties, such as tight markets for exports, the low rate of FDI disbursement and the complex situation of having to guard against acute diarrhoea and influenza A/H1N1.

As a result, the government needs to put into action a range of projects and speed up the disbursement of funding sourced from the State budget, Government bonds, State credits, ODA and FDI.

More drastic measures to prevent diseases, especially diarrhoea and influenza A/H1N1, should also be taken.(CPV/VNA)
