EU, VN talk of cooperate on migration

VGP – A seminar on migration was held by Việt Nam’s Ministry of Public Security and the delegation of the European Commission to Việt Nam on Monday in Hà Nội.

(23/06/2009-11:07:00 AM)

The conference proves the two sides’ joint effort to push legal migration and prevent illegal immigrants from Việt Nam to EU member countries.

Việt Nam and EU’s officials of migration management shared their views that it is necessary to uproot all causes leading to illegal migration, including poverty, income imbalance and job opportunities.

Vietnamese delegates supported the EU’s policies on development investment right in native countries in order to stabilize and better the living standards of potential immigrants.

At the seminar, Vietnamese consular officials proposed EU countries to solve difficulties relating to entry visas for Vietnamese citizens, open labor markets and carry out vocational training cooperation programs.

EU countries established the fundamental integration principles in 2004 for immigrants. Accordingly, legal immigrants will be given favorable conditions to attend courses on foreign languages, social and civil issues, and other necessary knowledge.

The EU is also discussing new regulations on social and economic rights for seasonal workers. Besides, salaried apprentices and employees working in European businesses will benefit from the regulations.
