Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai meets Singaporean President S. R. Nathan, July 29

The two sides were pleased at the fine development of the relationship between Việt Nam and Singapore, particularly in the field of politics.

The two countries have boosted exchanges of high-ranking delegations in recent years, marked by Singaporean President’s visit to Vietnam in February last year.

Deputy Prime Minister Hai hoped that the bilateral economic, trade and investment ties would be further fostered through such cooperation mechanisms like the framework agreement on connecting Vietnam-Singapore economies and the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP). 

The Vietnamese Deputy Prime Minister took the occasion to call on Singaporean investors to pour capital in electronics, informatics, information technology, high-profit services like hotel, tourism and real property, and labor-intensive projects which are prioritized by Vietnam.

President S.R. Nathan showed his good impressions on Vietnam's economic performance amid the global crisis, especially the Vietnamese Government’s concrete solutions on preventing economic recession, ensuring social security, stabilizing macro-economy, and applying flexible financial-monetary policies.

The host President also appreciated Vietnam's orientations on exploring new cooperative areas between the two countries in the time to come.

Singapore plans to assist Vietnam to lure foreign investment and expand exports; enhance programs on educational linkage; boost the sharing of information and experience of urban management, industry and tourism planning, stated President S.R. Nathan.

Also on the day, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai recieved Mrs. Marjorie Yang, Chairman of Esquel Group and co-chair of the International Advisory Panel of the Asia Competitiveness Institute (ACI). They exchanged views on Vietnam's national competitiveness and possible opportunities for coopearation between Vietnam and Singapore in economic research-development and national competiveness improvement.

They also discussed ways to enrich cooperation between the ACI and the Vietnamese Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM) and the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI)./.
