National Assembly outlines future external activities

VNA 29/10/2009 - The National Assembly’s external activities will be expanded to Africa, South America, the South Pacific, Southern Asia and the Middle East in 2010 and the following years.

This was put forward at the 17th meeting of the NA Committee for External Relations in Hanoi on October 29, which reviewed its performance in 2009 and outlined orientations for its affairs in 2010.

In 2010, the NA will work to further consolidate its external ties with traditional friends and help deepen the country’s ties with other countries, especially its leading partners, and step up cooperation with potential partners in various regions.

It will focus on undertaking the AIPA Chair in the 2009-2010 term and organising the 31st AIPA General Assembly in Vietnam while continuing to play an active, responsible role as APF Vice Chair and a member of the IPU Executive Committee at international and regional parliamentary forums.

Participation in international and regional parliamentary organisations, such as AIPA, APPF, APF, and IPU, and their activities has helped heighten the role, position and prestige of the NA in 2009 and deepen the country’s wide-ranging ties with other countries, participants agreed at the meeting.

They noted that the NA’s external activities made practical contributions to promoting Vietnam to the world as well as disseminating the country’s renewal achievements, new policies, its course towards democracy and its building of a law-governed State./.
