HCM City marks Cuba’s National Day

VNA 30/12/2009 - A ceremony was held in Ho Chi Minh City on Dec. 30 to celebrate the 51st National Day of Cuba, which falls on January 1.

While addressing the event, Cuban Consul General Gabbriel Perez Tarrau said the 50-year old Vietnam-Cuba fraternity and solidarity is a valuable asset both nations should preserve and uphold.

Tarrau said Vietnam’s renewal experiences are very useful to Cuba, adding that his country will focus on agricultural development and strive to post an economic growth rate of 1.9 percent in 2010.

HCM City Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association’s President Hoang Thi Khanh congratulated the Cuban people on their achievements after five decades of national construction and development.

Khanh said the international community has extended increasing support for Cuba, as proven clearly through global protests against the US’s embargo imposed on the island country.

On this occasion, which was co-hosted by HCM City’s Union of Friendship Organisations and Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Association, organisations and businesses presented 30,000 notebooks and 20 million VND to Cuban students./.
