FEALAC helps East Asia, Latin America get closer
Addressing the fourth FEALAC Foreign Ministers Meeting in Tokyo, on Jan. 16, Khiem said FEALAC should ensure its budget for the implementation of cooperative programmes and projects.
East Asia and Latin America are dynamic development regions with cooperation demand and potential, he said. This will serve as foundation for boosting FEALAC development, making the forum effective and practical to meet the desire and interest of all the member countries, Khiem added.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Deputy PM and FM Pham Gia Khiem received Argentinean FM Jorge Taiana, during which he asked the Latin American country to soon recognise Vietnam as a market economy.
Vietnam and Argentina have recently witnessed developments in bilateral cooperation, especially in trade and economy, Khiem said.
In the first ten months of 2009, bilateral trade value reached 600 million USD, compared to the 400 million USD figure for the whole 2008, he said.
Khiem also welcomed Argentina IMPSA group’s investment of 2 million USD in wind power production in Vietnam.
Minister Taiana said the two countries should continue to increase bilateral cooperation through visits by both leadership, expressing his hope that Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung will visit Argentina this year.
