Vietnam, Spain exempt visas for diplomatic passport holders

VGP 29/3/2010 - The Prime Minister has signed Decision 390/QD-TTg adopting the agreement between the Government of Vietnam and the Government of the Kingdom of Spain on visa exemption for diplomatic passport holders.

The agreement was signed earlier between Vietnam’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pham Gia Khiem, and Spain’s Foreign Minister on 15 December 2009 in Madrid, during the State visit to Spain by Vietnam’s State President Nguyen Minh Triet.

Vietnam and Spain commenced diplomatic ties on 23 May 1977.

Spain is one of the European Union countries that increased its trade turnover rate with Vietnam over the last five years averaging 30% per year reaching USD 470 million in 2005, USD 650 million in 2006, USD 860 million in 2007, and over USD 1.1 billion in 2008.

Additionally, Spain ranks sixth globally in terms of development aid and lists it as a priority in receiving development aid in South East Asia.

The relationship between the two countries has developed well in many areas with both sides exchanging high-ranking delegations in order to discuss means to promote it further.
